This is the new IV set that we will be using in the ICU. We put this in to try it out and see how it worked. The nice thing about this system is that once you insert the IV there is no blood that comes out. It is a closed system so no more hooking a flush and j-loop up. Once the IV is inserted blood flows up the tubing and stops at the Y site. You can then clamp the tubing and switch off the valve that stops the blood from leaking with these new tips. The best part of this new IV set is the dressing that is made for them. It is more like a central line dressing and because the IV has a no rotation end on the IV, the dressing holds the IV in even after we pulled pretty hard on it. This will be great for those patients we have that are detoxing or vented. So, my feelings on the new IV set, I am excited and think that it should simplify the insertion and
maintenance of peripheral IVs. This was an 18 gauge and not one drop of blood was seen. I am very excited to start using these.
